Yes, I do play games.

People have asked, “So Bernard, you still play games?”. “Of course I do!”, I would normally reply. And the funny part is. They would actually have a condescending look and say something like, “Wow. you’re pretty old and you’re still into them?” It’s funny how people think. Well this may be stomping on some ideals of some but, Games were not made for 14 year olds in mind.

If you’re going “Huh? I didn’t know that.” Read on.

Imagine if games were created for 14 year olds in mind. Well, you could try and end up with a headache. Its because you can’t. Most games, except the select few that are made for children under the age of 12, are designed, coded, thoroughly thought through for an older crowd of players, normally between the ages of 16 - 35.

So, if games were for immature people and kids, then why would grown-up’s bother? I mean, lets take lego for example. It was designed for kids, and we grow out from playing them eventually. But the novelty of it all is that most of the creativity we discover from playing lego are usually channeled to other things, like loving sci-fi, stuff getting blown up - that sorta thing.

I did start by playing Super Mario when I was 8 and got totally hooked. Graphics, special abilities, and infinite lives was some serious entertainment. With games now scoring “Next Gen” Graphics, gameplay has become nearly-realistic, if I may. Though abilities and infinite lives still stick as the backbone of a game, a well thought out plot is what a game (for me anyway) is all about.

“Why do you still play games?”.

It’s all about the entertainment.
